ADAS Launches Indigenous Scholarship Scheme

The scheme offers up to four scholarships per year, valued between $10,000 and $16,000, for applicants to either start their training in the sector, or if already employed, pursue further training to advance their career.

Two scholarship types can be awarded under the scheme:

• New entrants (Stream 1): Indigenous people without any prior employment in the hyperbaric industry.
• Career advancement (Stream 2): Indigenous people already employed in the hyperbaric industry, seeking support to access further training and advance their career.

To be eligible for the scholarship scheme, applicants must be eligible to enrol into an ADAS course (be aged over 18 years old, meet medical fitness requirements and any other course pre-requisites); and to identify as either an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, or as New Zealand Māori and/or Pasifika. Applicants must also be a citizen or permanent resident of either Australia or New Zealand.

The scholarship scheme aims to reduce barriers faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and Māori and Pasifika learners by offering financial and other supports for successful applicants to undertake occupational diver training and/or associated courses, delivered by ADAS Accredited Training Establishments (ATEs) in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
