In an ever-changing industry, there are always new developments and technologies available.  Tests in Australia of a new rebreather bailout system may be the face of one such change.

A deep diving rebreather, the Compact Bailout Rebreathing Apparatus (COBRA), which was released by James Fisher Defence (JFD) earlier this year, was tested in Australia recently with ADAS divers operating at depths down to 270m.

The introduction of rebreather systems allows for an increased duration of emergency breathing gas that was difficult to achieve with traditional bailout systems.

More details of the COBRA and the first usage of the system can be found on the Subsea World News site.
