A highlight of the 2024 ADAS Accredited Training Establishment (ATE) Meeting was a WHS regulator round table session to discuss Regulations, with regulators from 7 jurisdictions attending either in person or by video link.
All Female Dive Team
Diving contractor Professional Diving Services (PDS) recently hired an all female dive team to undertake maintenance work on enclosures at Taronga Zoo, Sydney.
PDS won the three year maintenance contract for the penguin and seal enclosures in July 2018 and have since been active in engaging female divers for the role. Amanda Sordes, a Scientific and Part 3 (SSBA to 50m) diver, shared her first hand experiences with ADAS.
It has been my honour to work at Taronga Zoo with an all-female dive team, for the first time in my career. All four of us have the capacity to supervise as well as dive. Professional Diving Services have won the 3 year maintenance contract for the penguin and seal enclosures at Taronga Zoo in Sydney in July 2018. It is rare enough to encounter female divers and supervisors, so having four of them work together felt very special. Apart from doing a great job staying on top of algae growth in the pools, we have enjoyed working with the zoo keeper’s team and getting to create clean enjoyable aquatic environments for beautiful animals like Charlie the biggest Antarctic fur seal, and getting to see Torre (the seal pup born in November 2018) grow stronger every week. Big thanks to Professional Diving Services for giving female divers the space they deserve in our occupational diving community.
