Overview

Depending on the process that has led to the issuance of an ADAS supervisor card, some ADAS supervisors hold a full Diploma of Hyperbaric Operations (Diving supervision) 11038NAT, while others have been awarded a partial completion of the same Diploma. International offshore supervisors who have undertaken a crossover process from a recognised agency may not have been awarded any Vocational Education and Training (VET) units.

NOTE: All ADAS supervisor card holders are able to use their ADAS card in order to work, regardless of what VET qualifications have been issued to them. However, some ADAS supervisors may also wish to hold a Diploma. For more information about VET qualifications and their relation to ADAS card, visit this page.

The Supervisor Diploma Pathway (SDP) allows those ADAS supervisors who have amassed supervisory work experience to supplement their training and experience and gain the full Diploma of Hyperbaric Operations (Diving Supervision) 11038NAT.

This pathway is open to all candidates who hold an ADAS supervisor card but who do not yet have a full Diploma of Hyperbaric Operations (Diving supervision) 1038NAT. This includes ADAS Offshore Supervisors who have gained their certification by the crossover process. It allows supervisors to gain a full Diploma by completing a structured learning program combined with logged work experience.  Applicants will be required to obtain workplace experience as a dive supervisor, complete a workbook and an online learning program, maintain a dive supervisor’s logbook, and undertake a final theory assessment which is arranged directly with ADAS.

NOTE: If you are unsure whether you already hold the full Diploma, please get in touch with the ADAS office and we will assist you.

Process

The process to gain on-the-job experience and eventually apply for a Diploma of Hyperbaric Operations (Diving supervision) 11038NAT involves a number of steps to be completed by supervisors who hold an ADAS supervisor card and have gained experience through employment and experience as a supervisor.

The process includes:

  1. Submit an enrolment application form directly to ADAS
  2. Gain access to the ‘Supervisor Pathway’ short course on the ADAS online learning site
  3. Be employed as an onshore diving supervisor for at least three (3) months – either as an onshore or offshore supervisor
  4. Build up at least 80 logged hours in a supervisory role
  5. Complete the course workbook, assignments and quizzes
  6. Submit an application to ADAS requesting final assessment (which will include logged evidence of supervisory experience; a review of your workbook, assignments and quizzes; a final examination; and interview with an ADAS assessor)

Once an enrolment application is submitted to ADAS it will be processed and access to the online training materials and quizzes will be provided.

After the online course is completed and an assessment application is submitted to ADAS, candidates will be contacted to arrange the exam and interview which will be conducted by ADAS via internet and phone.

Submitting Application to ADAS

The main components of undertaking the Supervisor Diploma Pathway is the successful completion workplace experience plus the online course titled ‘Supervisor Diploma Pathway’ (SDP).  This course is self-paced which allows students to undertake the work in a time-frame that suits them best, but it is expected that most candidates will complete the course within 3-12 months of enrolment.

You will find a link to the online course at the end of this page.

To gain access to the course will you will need the following:

  • A profile on the ADAS Online website – which you would have created while you were undertaking your initial training with the ATE
  • An enrolment key – which will be provided to you after your enrolment application form is processed by ADAS.

If you do not have either of the above items, please contact ADAS for assistance.

Certification Cost

The cost for the SDP process is made up of an enrolment fee, due upon enrolment and non-refundable; and a final assessment fee, due when you are ready to submit your final assessment documentation.

  • The enrolment fee is fixed. It is currently set at AUD $240 and will give you access to the online course. This fee is non-refundable, so if you have any doubt as to the suitability of the SDP for you, please contact ADAS before enrolling.
  • The final assessment fee will depend on your background and experience, the units of competency you already hold, and how long ago the units were awarded. ADAS assessors will undertake a process known as RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) and will also assess the work you submitted as part of the online SDP course. Based on these factors, the cost of the final assessment will will vary between AUD $480 and AUD $740. ADAS assessors will review your individual circumstances and advise you of the exact amount before any assessment work is undertaken. The final assessment will start as soon as the payment has been made.
